Early days in the parish were strange. The heat of the sun which made walking so difficult. To see the houses which people lived in. Just beside our house there is the parish school. It has four class rooms. We are going to extend it in January building four more class rooms and an office. There is a picture of me with a group of the children which was taken after celebrating mass with them one morning. The school is run by an order of Oblates. I include a photo of a group of people at mass in one of our churches which has no walls, just cane poles to hold a roof up. In the early days too we started to build a grotto to Our Lady of Lourdes in the parish. All the parishioners came and helped out to level the ground and prepare the place for the builders. There is a bus in one of the photos. The bus station is about 100 yards past our gate entrance. Buses pass by every five minutes. That is a good service for the locals as it is cheap, but the dust from the buses is terrivle hard to live with. It just chokes you and goes into your lunges and clothes. It goes into all the houses. Fr. Frank Jones and myself took part in the clean up and levelling of the ground before the grotto was built. I will put up photos of the grotto later on. Its slow importing photos to the site but worth it. It is easier for all of you at home to get a greater appreciation of what it is like. Of course you can double click on the photos to make them screen size for yourself. Chat soon...... P.J.
